8620 steel stockholders and suppliers. 8620 grade is a low alloy nickel, chromium, molybdenum case hardening steel available as full bar lengths or cut pieces with delivery to the whole of the UK. Carburised 8620 gives a hard case with a strong core whilst retaining a remarkable degree of toughness. SAE 8620 is suited for applications which require a combination of toughness and wear resistance. This grade is commonly supplied in round bar also conforming to the AISI 8620 standard.

Applications

This carburising steel grade is suitable for shafts, gears, pinions, colletts. 8620 is commonly used in the engineering and automitive industries for toolholders and other such components.

Carbon 0.18-0.23% Chromium 0.40-0.60%
Manganese 0.70-0.90% Nickel 0.40-0.70%
Silicon 0.15-0.35% Sulphur 0.035% max
Molybdenum 0.15-0.25% Phosphorous 0.040% max

Case hardening will give a hard wear resisting surface and a tough core strength to the steel. Case hardening temperatures range from 880-930°C, followed by rapid quenching and tempering which will determine the resulting hardness.

Heat treatment temperatures, including rate of heating, cooling and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each steel component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities. Please consult your heat treatment provider for full guidance on heat treatment of 8620 steel.
