50 Years of Growth and Innovation
From our beginnings in a family garage, we’ve grown into a company that serves customers across industries and continents. Along the way, we’ve embraced change to stay ahead:
- First Website: Launched in the mid ’90s (long before “mobile-friendly” was a thing).
- Expanded Stock Range: From a few grades to a comprehensive range of special steel grades, from carbon and alloy steels to stainless and tool steel.
- Cutting-Edge Service: Continually upgrading our machinery and processes to meet modern demands.
Where It All Began
Our story began in 1975 when Brian Ellis, a passionate metallurgist from Sheffield Technical College, recognized a gap in the market for high-quality steel and knowledgeable service. With experience at Kayser Ellison, Climax Molybdenum, and Uddeholm, Brian set up West Yorkshire Steel with just a small stock and bandsaw cutting facilities.
The Present Day
Fast forward to 2025, and West Yorkshire Steel has grown into a leading name in the steel industry. While we remain rooted in our family business values, our team has expanded to ensure the best service for our customers.
