070M20 Carbon Steel

070M20 steel suppliers and stockholders. 070M20 is a low carbon steel supplied in round and flat bar with delivery to the whole of the UK. It is an unalloyed mild steel type grade supplied in a hot rolled or bright drawn finish bar. It is a good quality machining grade offering low strength and suitability for welding.

070M20 steel is held on stock and can be delivered throughout the UK. All orders are supplied in accordance with our ISO 9001 accreditation.

Form of Supply

West Yorkshire Steel are stockholders and suppliers of round bar, flat bar and plate sizes. It is available cut to your required lengths as one offs or multiple pieces. Centreless ground steel bar can be supplied in 070M20, providing a good quality ground bar to tight tolerances.

Applications

070M20 is commonly used for general engineering applications such as shafts, bolts, spacers, hubs, brackets, fixtures and jigs.

Carbon	0.16-0.24%	Phosphorous	0.05% max
Manganese	0.50-0.90%	Sulphur	0.05% max
Silicon	0.10-0.40%

Annealing

070M20 is commonly supplied bright drawn or as rolled condition. If annealing is required heat to 880-910°C then furnace cool.

Hardening

As it is a low carbon unalloyed steel grade 070M20 is not ideally suited for heat treatment (080M40 or 080M46 may be a better option). If hardening is required heat to a temperature of 880-910°C. Quench in water and then temper.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment temperatures, including rate of heating, cooling and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities. Please consult your heat treatment provider for full guidance on heat treatment of 070M20 carbon steel.

070M20 steel is commonly available with a cast and analysis certificate or a certificate of conformity, please request when placing any orders.
